About the event
Racism kills. It is a scientifically proven fact. The stress someone endures due to racism can take 5-7 years off of their life expectancy -- that is, if a violent act rooted in racism doesn't take it all away first. It is not time that we spread awareness about this issue as an attempt to eliminate the fear, ignorance, and hate that it stems from, it is PAST the time. Time, for many victims of racism, has already run out.
Please join us on this day to march for their lives: their, being, the countless individuals who have suffered from the discrimination, hate, and violence that racism invites their way. On this day we will meet on the edge of Renaissance Park (across the parking lot from the "10 North" apartment complex) and we will march to Miller Park on MLK Boulevard. There, we will share stories of specific individuals who have lost their lives because of racism. We hope that this time of solidarity, education, and togetherness can inspire the community at large to reckon with the fact that racism is real - it is deadly - and it will not be tolerated in our community.
This is a day of love, not hate; of solidarity, not divisiveness; of hope, not violence. Arrive with your heart open, ready to be filled with stories and love.
